John Bouw, owner and president of Dentoom's Greenhouses, grew up in the Niagara
Peninsula, the heart of Canada's greenhouse industry. In 1980, he graduated from Ontario Agricultural
College with a diploma in Horticulture and headed west to Alberta to put his skills to work. For ten years,
John managed greenhouses for Nova Corporation. In 1991, he seized the opportunity to purchase Dentoom's
Greenhouses, a wholesale and retail operation which was established in 1954.
As owner of his own wholesale operation, John saw a demand for cuttings in the prairie provinces of Canada.
He went to work to build a first-class wholesale operation, always keeping his eyes open for the new and
unusual to add to his stock. In 1994, he joined Proven Winners Group and proudly presented this new line
to his Canadian customers. Canadians love Proven Winners and the wholesale business is flourishing.
Although most of his customers are in the western provinces, John has shipped plants to every province and
territory in Canada. In 1996, John began an expansion project to provide a new site to expand the wholesale
end of his business. He continues to balance the wholesale operation with a thriving retail business.
John is past president of the Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association and a current member of the Canadian
Ornamental Plant Foundation, Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association, Flowers Canada, Landscape Alberta
Nursery Trades Association and the Ohio Florists' Association. He accepts some speaking engagements and very much enjoys
sharing his hands-on knowledge with others.
As John continues to expand Dentoom's Greenhouses, he works hard to maintain the high quality plants that
are his trademark throughout Canada.
